Federal Government Launches “Cheaper Home Batteries Program” – Here’s What You Need to Know
Updated: May 2025

If you’ve been thinking about adding a battery to your solar system, there’s never been a better time.

The Federal Government has announced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, starting 1 July 2025, making home battery storage significantly more affordable for Australian households.

What Is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

This initiative is designed to support more homes in adopting battery technology by offering upfront rebates on battery purchases and installations.

Here’s a quick summary:

  • Up to $3,300 rebate for a standard 10kWh battery

  • Uncapped program – no limit on the number of rebates

  • The subsidy is not means-tested.

  • Add-on batteries eligible if you already have a system

  • Rebate reduces gradually each year until 2030

Am I Eligible?

  • To qualify for the rebate:

  • The battery must be Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved

  • Installation must be done by a CEC-accredited battery installer (Green Light Electrical Services)

  • The battery must have a capacity of 5kWh or more

  • It must be VPP-capable (Virtual Power Plant ready)

  • The battery must not be switched on before 1 July 2025

Why Act Now?

  • Demand for battery systems is expected to skyrocket as the rebate kicks in.

  • By speaking with our team early, we can help:

  • Choose the right battery for your needs

  • Ensure eligibility for all available rebates and loans

  • Lock in your spot before the rush hits

  • Install now& claim later: Systems installed before July 1 are eligible for the rebate if they are switched on after July 1.
